Gifted and Talented

The Gifted and Talented program at Trevista provides differentiated, comprehensive and rigorous academic programming for kindergarten through fifth grade students.  GT programming varies from grade to grade, depending upon the strength areas and needs of the students. Academic programming includes push in and pull out models, whole class, small group and one-on-one support and includes core subjects as well as thinking strengths and strategies in creative problem solving, logical reasoning, visual spatial thinking, creativity and more. Services include using best practices in Gifted Education through direct instruction including depth and complexity for rigor, conversations or topics of discussion as chosen by students, social interactions in small groups, or direct support/observations requested by the classroom teacher or parent. Identified students have a targeted learning goal and an affective needs goal addressed on an ALP (advanced learning plan). The ALP’s are written collaboratively with the GT Rep, classroom teachers, parents, and the child. These goals are progress monitored throughout the year. The GT Rep provides support for classroom teachers. Services include testing for GT identification, collaborative planning, differentiated instruction techniques, enrichment programs,  or providing resources for above grade level learners.Trevista continues to work on finding alternative ways to identify giftedness in students, specifically students who have been historically excluded from gifted and talented programming.

GT testing is coming up for all Kindergarten and Second grade students. The Second grade students will be taking the NGAT and the Kindergarten students will be taking the NNAT3. In the next few weeks letters will be sent home with students that will inform parents of these assessments. Ms. Turrettini will be administering it starting the end of September for Second grade and mid October for Kindergarten.

Cognitive testing for grades 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th, the CogAT, that parents can sign their child up for is also available. This application is due by Oct 13th and will be administered in November. Here’s the link to the application: https://studentequity.dpsk12.org/gifted-talented/. Once you are on the site, click the red cognitive testing application link.
