What is a fun fact about you, Ms. Mullins?

I love being outdoors at the break of dawn to just appreciate a new day.

What is a fun fact about you, Ms. Yocum?

I’m a vegetarian but I miss bacon desperately.

Where are you from Ms. Mullins?

I’m from McGregor, Iowa.

Where are you from Ms. Yocum?

I’m from Peoria, Illinois.

What experience led you to Trevista, Ms. Mullins?

I wanted to be a part of the NW Denver community I live in and work with students in a high needs school with even greater potential.

What experience led you to Trevista, Ms. Yocum?

After spending 5 years living and teaching in Washington, DC, I was ready for a change of pace. I grew up vacationing in Colorado and knew it was a place where I always wanted to end up. On a whim, I decided to make it happen. I did a Skype interview with Ladawn Baity from halfway across the country, and the rest is history!

How long have you been a teacher, Ms. Mullins?

This is my 11th year!

How long have you been a teacher, Ms. Yocum?

This is my 9th year of teaching.

What do you love most about being a part of the Trevista Community, Ms. Mullins?

I love my students’ passion for learning and growing. It’s incredible to be a part of their journey and help create new opportunities for their future.

What do you love most about being a part of the Trevista Community, Ms. Yocum?

I love the staff and student culture most! The adults in this building always go above and beyond to support one another in any way they can. I love how we celebrate students (and how students celebrate each other!) in our weekly Falcon rallies. Even when the going gets tough (and oh boy does it sometimes), there’s always a support system kids and adults alike can turn to.

What is your favorite part of teaching 5th grade, Ms. Mullins?

5th graders are able to form solid arguments around a text, which in turn gives you a great insight into their unfolding personalities.

What is your favorite part of teaching 5th grade, Ms. Yocum?

I love the age these 5th graders are! They’re old enough to have more responsibilities and self-control, but don’t quite yet have those middle school attitudes J. I also love the fun and team building we get to experience at Balarat!

What makes your teammate so special?

Ms. Yocum brings so much joy and enthusiasm to her rigorous lessons that close gaps each and every day.

What makes your teammate so special?

Jessica is truly one of the hardest working, most amazing teachers I’ve ever worked with. She gives her all to our class, day in and day out – no excuses.
