English Language Development (ELD)

In ELD, students learn about the forms and functions of the English language. Students will learn the language they will most likely not learn outside of school or efficiently pick up on their own. Students will learn the language they will need everyday in each of their other content areas they are in throughout the school day.

Please visit our Trevista ELD page for more information/resources.

Achieving full proficiency in English includes far more than mere fluency in conversation or everyday use of language. It means students must know English well enough to be “fully competitive in academic use of English with their age equivalent speaking peers.” – Hakuta, 2000
